British Values

At St. Bernadette’s, our mission is to “Do our best for God.” The Gospel Values, which underpin our Mission Statement, are found at the heart of The Beatitudes and are firmly embedded throughout our curriculum and our way of life. The fundamental British Values are intrinsically linked to the Gospel Values and enable our pupils at St. Bernadette’s to view the world through a fair, charitable and compassionate lens:

Gospel Value: Compassion- empathy for those around us who suffer.

Beatitude: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

British Value: Mutual Respect & Tolerance, Democracy

Gospel Value: Humility- seeing Christ in the other.

Beatitude: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

British Value: Mutual Respect & Tolerance

Gospel Value: Justice- working for a fairer world for all.

Beatitude: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.”

British Value: Rule of Law, Democracy

Gospel Value: Forgiveness- letting go of resentment and letting the love of God fill our hearts.

Beatitude: “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”

British Value: Democracy, Individual Liberty

Gospel Value: Kindness- to be gentle, friendly and considerate to those around us.

Beatitude: “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”

British Value: Mutual Respect & Tolerance

Gospel Value: Integrity- to seek to follow the Lord’s will in everything we do.

Beatitude: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”

British Value: Rule of Law, Individual Liberty

Gospel Value: Courage- to have the spiritual strength of Christ.

Beatitude: “Blessed are those who are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

British Value: Individual Liberty

Democracy: Year Six

Following on from learning more about democracy and its importance, two Year Six pupils chose to create a presentation (in their own time) for their peers, to summarise their learning. Year Six were reminded about the etymology of 'democracy' and its Greek origins and then taken through several aspects of the voting system in the U.K. and how parliament operates. Well done to those children for taking the initiative to move their learning to the next level!
