We were very lucky to be visited by Olympic athlete James Dasaolu. He spoke to the children in assembly about his career as an athlete and showed the children some of his drills. Afterwards, each class took part in their sponsored circuits. The children had so much fun and were very inspired! We might have some future Olympians!

Outdoor Learning 1
Linking in with our science topic, in our first outdoor learning session we used items that we found outside like twigs and leaves to create animal skeletons. The children were very creative and enjoyed identifying the bones. Some children helped Mrs Brown fill our planter with new compost and planted some bulbs, there was a game of 'The Floor is Lava', broomsticks and a funeral for a worm.

Macaroni!
In our English lessons, we have been reading the Old Lady Who Lived in a Vinegar Bottle. As part of this, our grammar focus has been on inverted commas. Using macaroni, the children identified where the missing inverted commas should go on speech taken from the story. As a challenge, some children had a go at writing their own direct speech and added the inverted commas.
Y3 Macaroni Inverted Commas
Arrays
We have been working on our times table facts using arrays. The children used counters to create arrays for their multiplication facts. This was building on their prior knowledge of 2, 5, 10 times tables and beginning to focus on their 3, 4 and 8 times tables as the focus for Year 3.
Y3 Maths Arrays

Author: Liz Flanagan
We had a brilliant opportunity of a zoom call with author Liz Flanagan. Liz is a children's author best known for her Wildsmith series. This provided the children with a great insight into what being an author is like, where she gets her inspiration from and how to become an author. The children got lots from this and had a go at creating their own setting and characters similar to the ones in Liz's books.
Y3 Liz Flanagan talk
Maths: Perimeter
In Maths, we have just introduced perimeter. We have been using multi link cubes to help us understand the meaning of perimeter before we have a go at measuring and calculating the perimeter ourselves.
Y3 Perimeter
Art: Collage
Year 3 have been looking at collages inspired by Henri Matisse. The children used the technique 'Painting with Scissors' to focus on an aspect of a piece of artwork to create their own collage.

As part of our Science topic, Animals including Humans, we have been learning about the human skeleton and its importance. We have labelled the different parts and identified their different functions and have learnt how the bicep and tricep muscles relax and contract to help us move our arms. We even made a model to help us understand. Take a look!

One of our English units this half-term has been based on discussions. In class we have learnt about the features of a discussion text, identified points for and against a discussion point, as well as using supporting statements and logical connective phrases and words to develop reasons. We have discussed:
- Should children be allowed to set their own bedtime?
- Is it better to be an adult or a child?
- Should children have to wear a uniform for school?
